A Fresh Start in 2017
In September of 2016, we closed for a total remodel to reopen in January 2017 with several things in mind. For owners Grant and Christina Maulsby, it was a place to incorporate the history of the Surf Ballroom and a place where their kids (and others) could come and feel welcomed.
The remodel gave us the chance to shape a room that feels like a backstage hangout, a diner counter, and a neighborhood table all rolled together — a spot where great food, good conversation, and live music share the same stage.

The grill is built around comfort food done with care, from stacked burgers on toasted brioche and hand-pattied chuck to crispy buttermilk tenders with a side of golden fries. Sauces like house ranch, smoky BBQ, honey mustard, and creamy bleu dressing show up across the menu, along with flatbreads topped with mozzarella, pepperoni, artichoke, and spinach. Sandwiches range from breaded chicken breast to smoked pork and ribeye wraps, with sides like Wisconsin cheese curds, deep-fried pickles, and homemade chips rounding out a lineup designed for sharing around a busy table.
Dining here carries the easygoing spirit of a neighborhood hangout, where jukebox-era rock and roll meets a laid-back lunch counter. The space nods to the legacy of the local ballroom scene, blending diner nostalgia with a backstage vibe that feels welcoming to families, kids, and grown-ups pulling up a chair after a long day. Generous plates, friendly service, and a menu that leans into grilled, fried, and slow-cooked comfort make it a natural stop for anyone craving a satisfying, music-filled meal in a relaxed Midwestern setting.
